2007 Jeep Wrangler – How long does Soft Top last?

I was advised to consider the hard top over the hard top for a 2007 Wrangler, based in part on that the Soft Top requires replacement periodically. Question: Does anyone have experience for how long the soft-top lasts? I do plan on keeping the Jeep for a LONG time (where the LIFETIME warranty is nice)

for soft top, if you live in a hot place where the sun hits it periodically, from 1to 2 yrs, if you live in a place where it does not hit it all the time 3to5yrs and also having it clean helps a lot, giving it more life

The soft top on my 2002 is still brand new and I have it on the Jeep year-round in Northeast PA. It’s seen plenty of sun, snow, road salt, rain, and mud as well as trails. (Though I do ALWAYS take the windows out when on trails to save them from being scratched.)

It all depends on how well you take care of it. I abused the heck out of the top on my last Wrangler and it only lasted 3 years. This current top is 4 years old and I’ll have it for at least 4 more as long as it’s taken care of. That means following the instructions in the manual for cleaning both the top and the windows and making sure it doesn’t get snagged on any branches!

Seems nowadays the biggest danger to soft tops is the jerks with knives that cut into them to steal anything they can get their hands on inside your Jeep.

I agree with JD that security may be more an issue than how long the top lasts. I have had the soft top on my current Wrangler for 5 years and it is still in excellent shape. I wash it with soapy water when I wash the Jeep, which is maybe once every 2-3 months. The big thing you have to watch is the windows—they’re very easy to mess up when cleaning them. I use a cleaner made especially for convertible plastic windows.

I really hurt the rear window last winter when we had alot of snow and the salt grime built up so bad I had to pull into a gas station during a trip and use their squeegee to clean it off—BAD THING!!! Never do that–ever….lol. But I managed to buff out most of the scratches with alot of elbow grease and patience. I’m actually surprised how durable it is.

And besides–my husband has a hard top on his Wrangler and it’s not nearly as fun as the soft top!!! But yeah, if you are in an area where security may be an issue, you might want to do the hard top or the dual top combo.
